Congressman sues cafeteria over olive pit in sandwich

Washington DC - Rep. Dennis Kucinich has sued a U.S. House of Representatives cafeteria for selling him a sandwich wrap that caused dental damage when he bit into an olive pit, according to a filed in Superior Court for the District of Columbia. The Cleveland Democratic congressman’s lawsuit seeks $150,000 in damages from companies that operate the Longworth House Office Building’s cafeteria. Kucinich’s congressional office confirmed he filed the lawsuit. The document says the congressman believes he’s entitled to damages for future dental and medical expenses and to compensate him for pain, suffering, and loss of enjoyment.  More…

A penny costs 1.62 cents to manufacture

 Washington DC - It costs more than a penny to manufacture a penny. It costs 1.62 cents to produce that 1 cent copper coin. The director of the Mint tried to make the penny cheaper to manufacture but Congress shut that initiative down. As it currently stands, the Treasury boss can recommend changes in metal content or in the amount of coins produced but only Congress can make the final decision.  More…
